The high pressure fire-extinguishing device HDL 250 - Argumentative Opposition
Not only in the initial phase of the HDL 250 false or misleading statements of rather laymen and less-informed experts were brought forward against the HDL 250 resp. against the fire-fighting with high pressure water spray. Some examples hereafter:
Dangers of Scalding
Statement: This justified reproach refers to high pressure pumps of 30 to 40 bar operating pressure with form-stable hoses and rapid action equipment, however at flow rates of 100 until 200 l/min.

Right: The high pressure fire-extinguishing device HDL 250 works with a much lower flow rate, namely maximum 24 l/min at operating pressures of up to 250 bar. With this limited water flow scalding vapour pressures and vapour speeds (e. g. in the door or window area) do not occur.
Risk of injury by the high pressure jet
Statement: People can be hurt by the high pressure system.
Wrong.
Right: Risks of injury caused by bursting of the high pressure hose are completely excluded from 10 cm off the break. Cutting injuries caused by the high pressure jet.
Recoil
Statement: The recoil is dangerous and hard to control because of the high pressure of 250 bar.
Wrong.
Right: As is well known the recoil is a function of nozzle cross section and nozzle pressure. The recoil of a C-hose with 8 mm nozzle (100 l/min with 8 bar) is approx. 80 N (8.0 kg). The recoil of a C-hose with 12 mm nozzle (200 l/min with 8 bar) is 180 N (18.0 kg).
However, with the HDL 250 with an approx. 30-fold pressure the recoil is only 71 N (7.1 kg). It is to be noted that with the HDL 250 the working safety is better safeguarded by the self-shutting pistol with additional support handle than with the C-hose. (Uncontrolled scattering of the fire-extinguishing equipment of the HDL 250 is completely excluded as the valve of the spray pistol automatically closes when letting go.)
